“Maps call to us in soft, emphatic voice
to find the beauty across borders,
calling in the language of feeling”

“I am drawn to maps not only because they are beautiful objects in their own right but also because they are repositories for meaning. A map can reveal so many stories and can become a portal to places that are significant in personal narratives.”, says artist Ekta Kaul. In these uncertain times our thoughts often turn to happier days and the importance of our stories, memories and maps. Places we’ve lived, great holidays we’ve had and important journeys we’ve made are important life markers and necessary to our well-being. Using participants own physical and emotional “maps”, London based Stitch Cartographer, Ekta Kaul, will be demonstrating how to develop key motifs, textures and patterns, evocative of place to reinforce our positive memories.
